In our group this morning we talked about how it sometimes feels like our parents are watching our every move. One girl shared that it feels like her parents don’t trust her to do anything herself.
I think it is important to remember that it isn’t us our parents don’t trust, it’s our eating disorders that they don’t trust.
They have had to watch Ed beat us up day in day out. They have had to live with him and see him killing and upsetting their children. Just like we can’t explain what it is like to have an eating disorder, they can’t explain what it is like to have children, and more importantly, what it is like to see someone damaging your children and there being nothing they can do about it.
So next time you get frustrated at parents for interfering and being controlling, try and remember that they are just trying to take ed’s control away, not yours. They are just joining forces with you in the fight against ed. They are on your side, on your team, and together you can win.
